Spider’s Silk Farming Guide

Spider's SilkUpdated: 21st January 2014.
So you want to find the best places to farm spider's silk in the world of warcraft do you. Well I have have been busy finding the best locations and spiders to farm said such resources. Including accurate videos and stats.

Farming Spider's Silk Guides for Mists of Pandaria

Farming Spider's Silk in: Darkshire Duskwood

My first port of call was Duskwood located in Darkshire. There are three types of low level spiders in this area all of which drop "Spiders Silk" I have put together several videos for each type of spider.
These spiders include:
  • Venom Web Spider
  • Black Widow Hatchling
  • Black Widow
I am currently re-working the content on this page so that it has the most useful and relevant information for you. Drop rates will be available shortly

Darkshire Spider Silk Locations

Farming Spider's Silk in: Thelgen Rock - Wetlands

My second area is the Wetlands, specifically Thelgen Rock. Here you will find three types of spider, the Cave Stalker and the Leech Stalker. In addition there is a rare that hides inside the cave near the pool of water at the end. There are two major spiders here, and one rare all of which will drop spider's silk. The best practice is to clear the outside of the cave first, then the inside top and bottom. On the way back more cave stalkers will spawn so you can collect more spider's silk as you leave, and once outside the Leech Stalkers should have re-spawned so you can loot them too.

These spiders include:
  • Cave Stalker
  • Leech Stalker
  • Leech Widow (Rare)

I am currently re-working the content on this page so that it has the most useful and relevant information for you. Drop rates will be available shortly

Please note that this page is currently being updated, more content will be available shortly including other areas, and drop rates. If you have at all found this useful be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel and follow SimplyWarcraft!

Talisman of True Treasure Tracking

While wandering Shattrath City in Outland I came across a vendor who was selling the "Talisman of True Treasure Tracking" its description says

"Wearing this, one might find the rarest of items in the most mundane of locales!"

The vendor is notorious for selling "joke" goods such as the "soap necklace" however lets think about this descriptive statement for a moment. Lets not dismiss this item as a "fake".

When the Talisman of True Treasure Tracking will not work.

When MOBS are spawned, fishing, herb and mining notes, treasure chests, their loots are set the moment they spawn, not when you kill or collect them.

So realistically this Talisman of True Treasure Tracking may not work when killing NPC's, mining nodes, gathering herbs, opening treasure chests or fishing in pools.

When the Talisman of True Treasure Tracking might work

The only place that I see this Talisman of True Treasure Seeking to work is when you fish in open water. This is because the items you collect are set when you loot in open water (not fishing pools).

Fishing in random open water would technically be classed as "the most mundane of locales" so maybe I am right on this one. Realistically how many players go out fishing in open water now-a-days. Hardly any unless you plan on levelling up your fishing profession.

Farming: Gooey Spider Leg

The best place I have found to farm Gooey Spider Leg is Thelgen Rock located in the Wetlands. Please view stats on the drop rate for Gooey Spider Legs from each of the Wetlands Spiders below

The best place to farm “Gooey Spider Leg” is in fact located at “Thelgen Rock” in the “Wetlands”. Benefits of farming “Gooey Spider Legs” in this area is a fast spawn rate of spiders and there are two different types of spider (three including a rare inside the cave itself). From personal experience the "Cave Stalkers" found inside the cave, and the "Leech Stalkers" found outside the cave both have the same drop rate for Gooey Spider Leg.

Wetland Spider Location

Leech StalkerCave Stalker

Leech Stalker Gooey spider leg Drops (found outside the cave):

  • 7 x Successful Gooey Spider Leg loots
  • 13 x Unsuccessful
  • Total Kills: 20
  • (Drop Rate of gooey spider leg from Leech Stalker: 35%)

Cave Stalker Gooey spider leg drops (found inside the cave):

  • 7 x Successful Gooey Spider Leg Loots
  • 13 x Unsuccessful
  • Total Kills: 20 (Drop rate: 35%)

I know that there are a lot of people and sites out there with a variance in opinion on the best spiders to kill to farm Gooey Spider leg, this guide was accurate as of my own personal findings while playing the game on the 8th July 2012.

Farming Arctic Fur

Right I'm going to get right to the point, you want Arctic Fur right?

You have two ways of obtaining it.
  1. Farm it from Northrend Beasts
  2. Buy it from the Auction house

Obtaining Arctic Fur if you are NOT a professional skinner.

If you are not a Skinner then you will have to purchase Arctic Fur from the Auction house, usually they sell (on my server) for upwards of 50 Gold a piece, they are very rare 1% drops hence their high value in the auction house.

Obtaining Arctic Fur if you ARE a professional skinner.

If you are a Skinner then you need to have at least 375 Skinning Skill before attempting to skin the beasts that carry this valuable and rare loot.

From experience the best place to farm Arctic Fur is in the Borean Tundra, Northrend.
  1. If you travel to "Amber Ledge" there is a load of Wooly Rhino in the area.
  2. Farm enough Wooly Rhino and you will start finding the rare blue item known as "Arctic Fur".

What beasts drop Arctic Fur?

I have personally had Arctic Fur drop from the following Northrend beasts
  • Wooly Rhino (Borean Tundra near Amber Ledge)
  • Wooly Rhino Bull (Borean Tundra near Amber Ledge)
  • Wooly Rhino Calf (Borean Tundra near Amber Ledge)
  • Tundra Mammoth (Borean Tundra)
  • Tundra Mammoth Calf (Borean Tundra)
  • Tundra Mammoth Bull (Borean Tundra)
  • Lunchbox (Borean Tundra near Amber Ledge)
  • Dreadsaber (Sholazar Basin)
  • Longneck Grazer (Sholazar Basin)
I hope that this quick and straight to the point guide has helped you, if you have any questions regarding Arctic Fur and how it can be obtained please feel free to comment below.

Summer Challenges Announced

We have recently heard that Blizzard have announced some Summer challenges to give us players another way to pass the time while waiting for the new expansion to come out. Blizzard basically state that its to give us a reason to go out into the near forgotten areas which we once passed while levelling up our characters, such as Outland which has been pretty much forgotten about since Cataclysm was released. Their reason, for us to obtain rare mounts, rare achievements and rare items.

Image from www.wow-europe.com

These challenges encourage players to group up and visit certain areas which Blizzard have announced the "Challenges" are based, and to do things that they do not normally do anymore. (Basically trying to get players to play the game again, instead of hanging out in the cities twiddling their thumbs waiting for Mists of Pandaria).

My opinion on why Blizzard have made the Summer Challenges

My opinion on this is that Blizzard have only done this to try and reduce the number of players that hang around the main cities, such as Stormwind. Prior to Cataclysm most level 80 (the then top level) used to hang out in Dalaran, since Cataclysm was released when you visit or pass through Dalaran in Northrend its basically a ghost town, and most level 85 players have made their homes back in Stormwind or other major cities in Azoroth.

Item restoration through Battle.net

We have recently heard through Blizzard's European website that items that you have recently removed or changed on your account can be restored back to how they were, this applies to:

  • Items that have been recently destroyed
  • Items that have been recently disenchanted
  • Items that have been recently sold.
How Blizzard have done this is through a "self-service" section of Battle.net accounts, which I am assuming will save moderators a lot of time, and use their time to help players with real problems, not for acting stupidly.

How often can the "item restoration" form be used?

The item restoration form can be used once every 30 days, this is surely to prevent players from abusing the system if they find a way. And its most likely only available with items that have been sold to vendors (regarding recently sold item restoration) and not applicable to items sold in the Auction house.

What items is "item restoration" not applicable for?

  • Items that have been traded
  • Items that have been used in crafting
  • Items that have been "used" (most likely meaning consumed)

How long does it take to get my item back?

Sold and destroyed items will appear immediately in your account when you complete the "automatic item restoration" form.

If the item has been disenchanted it must be reviewed by Blizzard Customer Support before it is processed, this is most likely so they can also remove any items created during the disenchanting process. When you put a request in for a disenchanted item restoration, your "ticket" is placed in a list for customer support to review and they will deal with it as soon as they can. If there are lots of "disenchanted item tickets" then it will take longer than if the ticket list is shorter. When it has been completed however you will receive an in game message informing it has been accepted/declined, if it has been accepted then you will also receive the restored item in that letter.

How much does it cost?

Nothing - its FREE!

How many items can I restore?

The self-serve item restoration form provided by Blizzard in your Battle.net account can be used once every 30 days however you can restore up-to 50 items on one form submission to Blizzard.

Why is the item i want to restore not showing up in the list?

If an item is not showing in the list then this means you cannot get it back.

I just changed faction - the item i want back isn't in the list!

Additionally if you have just had a faction change, any items recently sold, disenchanted or destroyed will not show up in the list anyway.

World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide 2012

Six simple tips to make gold legally on World of Warcraft

Well we all would like a little more gold when playing World of Warcraft. Whether its for crafting amazingly epic items to equip to your character or just to pay the repair bills from questing, PVP or dungeons.

I go out of my way to make gold legally on the game and here are a few tips that I have put together so you will never run out of gold on your world of warcraft characters.

Using this guide I make approximately 2000g a day.

I made the mistake of levelling up engineering and wasted most of  my gold on mats, hence the low gold value on some of the screenshots. I don't want YOU to make this MISTAKE.

Tip 1: Max your level

The only reason I say this is because its so much easier to make gold once you reach level 85 on World of Warcraft. Why? Its because once you are top level you have access to most areas of the game, and it makes it so much easier when grinding mobs or fending off vicious beasts when gathering materials to sell on.

Tip 2: Gathering professions.

From my own personal experience of playing World of Warcraft I have found that the quickest way of earning gold is in fact through the gathering professions. My reason for this is it costs you NOTHING to gather ores, skins, herbs etc... no crafting costs thus 100% profit of gold for you.

My personal choice and experience of switching between primary professions over the past 5 years I highly recommend that if you wish to make gold.

Its always best to max out your chosen gathering profession, as the higher level areas will generally allow you to collect much more valuable items, thus profit for you.

Recommended: Mining

Mining is a very time consuming profession however the rewards for selling ores, gems and volatile items such as Volatile Water, Volatile Earth etc are very rewarding due to the amount of gold that you can very quickly earn through selling these items.

Gems are commonly used by players crafting and levelling in Jewel-crafting and Engineering.
Volatile items such as Volatile Earth, Volatile Fire, Volatile Water are used in Mining, Enchanting and Engineering.

Its always recommended to smelt your collected ores into bars as generally they tend to sell for more, however always check the cost to sell ores individually before smelting just in case there is more profit in selling them as raw ores.

You should focus on "Elementium Ore', "Pyrium Ore", and other high level area ores to maximise your profits.

Recommended: Skinning

Other players who specialise in tailoring, leather working and engineering will all require leather to complete their craft, and levelling so why not take the time to max out your skinning and go out of your way to gather leather from wild beasties of Azeroth.

On my server light leather sells for over 1 gold per item, while the tougher leathers to locate such as "Arctic Fur" will regularly sell for over 80 gold for one! So skinning is a great way to earn yourself some gold.

To maximise profits try to focus on "Knolthide leather", "Light Leather", "Medium Leather", "Heavy Leather, "Rugged Leather" and the highly desireable "Arctic Fur".

Avoid: Engineering

There is no profit in Engineering as a primary profession, it only costs you gold and you earn very little from it.

I spent several months levelling my character in Engineering, I found that items created in engineering cannot be used by other players who are not engineers themselves... so basically anyone crafting items from engineering will only be able to sell to other engineering players.... who quite frankly can make the item themselves anyway... why buy it?

Tip 3: Grinding Mobs for items and money

Basically killing NPC characters such as humanoid, beast or dragonkin will give you a variety of different items, some individual items such as Spiders Silk dropped from low level spiders (SEE SPIDER SILK FARMING GUIDE) are highly valuable to tailors, leatherworkers etc for making their items. Its always good to look into the different items which players can craft and see which items are most sought after.

Even grinding MOBS in low level areas such as Westfall is most profitable, as they die from one shot kills, and often drop money and green items. Sure they may be low value but you can kill many MOBS in a short period of time and putting items for sale in the auction house will give other players the opportunity to buy them, disenchant or equip the item to their character.

Tip 4: Farming Companions

Additional to this I recommend focusing on MOBS which can drop companions too. Companions are valuable and highly desirable non-combat (currently) pets which are very collectible.

The wetlands is a easy location to grind/farm for companions

  • There is a Raptor cave where you can find a nest and collect a "Razormaw hatchling" companion which commonly sells for 150g.
  • The "Ebon Whelp", "Dragonmaw Whelpstealer" found in ample numbers do drop the "Ebon hatchling" companion.
  • The Oozes that populate several areas of the wetlands also drop "Ooze" companions so keep an eye out for them too.

Tip 5: Auction House

Always sell any item that is used for crafting and obtained through the gathering professions at the auction house, other players NEED these items in order for them to level up and create what they WANT.

The World of Warcraft community in general is one which WANTS stuff.
So why not profit from other players but still help them out at the same time!

Tip 6: Never Destroy

Even if an item is grey "junk" never throw it out, simply sell it to a vendor, the amount of gold that you can earn from even junk items over time is immense.

If you choose to follow these simple top tips, you will never be coin shy again.

Darkmoon Faire Ended - Feast of Winter Veil Begins

Well the Darkmoon Faire has ended and I hope that you worked hard to earn your new mounts available by exchanging Darkmoon Faire Tokens. With the closure of the Darkmoon Faire Blizzard have sprung upon us the beginning of the Feast of Winter Veil.
From what I can see so far its not much different from the past years. I think that the “rescue dancer” quest and “recover the stolen presents” quest have been changed as I do not remember a giant Grinch being there last time.
The main hub of the “Feast of winter veil” is around Ironforge as that is where Blizzards version of Santa is hanging out.

Starting the festive quests

However you can start the festive quests at any major city such as Stormwind (where the festive NPC’s are hanging out near where the old entrance to the Auction house was (pre-cataclysm), at the caravan where the Elder character once stood in the Trade District.

Khole Jinglepocket
Khole Jinglepocket

Farming in the feast of winter veil

If you are a player who loves making gold the idea thing to do at this time is to Farm “Small Eggs” and collect “Ice Cold Milk” from mobs. I say this because one of the starting festive quests requires you to make “Gingerbread Cookies” and the ingredients include “Small Eggs” and a glass of “Ice cold milk” to give to Santa.
  • Small Eggs currently sell for 3g 75s
  • Ice Cold Milk currently sells for 84s                                              On my server
  • Gingerbread Cookies sell for 5g 75s

Making Gingerbread Cookies for Santa

Remember that before you can make the gingerbread cookie you have to learn the cooking recipe first! I purchased the recipe several years ago originally however “Khole Jinglepocket” sells the recipe in Stormwind at the caravan shown in the above image.
Khole Jinglepocket
The ingredients of “Gingerbread Cookies” are as follows and you need a cooking fire to create the cookies themselves. You will require 5 Gingerbread cookies and 1 glass of ice cold milk to give to Santa:
  • 1x Small Egg
  • 1x Holiday Spices (which can be bought from any festive vendor)

Patch 4.3 Hour of Twilight Goes Live

Well the hour of twilight has been forced upon us and the rein of terror of Deathwing has come to a close. Personally I think that its a good thing as quite frankly when my character is out mining in the middle of Burning Steppes and as my character is normally the only one there - Deathwing usually homes in on my character like a moth to a flame.

Always frustrating how he could take the time to go out of his way just to annoy me. Well since that is over hopefully there are more good things to come to the world of warcraft.

You can view the official cut-scene of the downfall of "Deathwing" near the portals in Stormwind by clicking on "Chromie" near the left pillar in the picture.

Most people focus on the new PVP, raids, dungeons that new patches bring out but I prefer focusing on the littler things - small gestures that make playing worthwhile. This time round there is a brand new Darkmoon Faire with its own area and exclusive mounts and companions.

So basically there are a good few new features presented to us with patch 4.3: Hour of Twilight.
These include the following:

Brand new Darkmoon Faire

I have written another post all about the brand new darkmoon faire experience so please check it out "here".  There is no point blabbering about repeating myself when there is a new page on it.

Transmogrification:

You can now customise your apparel and weapons to look like any other item you have picked up. I have noticed that there are a few things you need to know when using transmogrification.

  • Make sure you are wearing your best stat equipment but don't like the look of.
  • Go to the transmogrification vendor and select the "shiny" item of the same type.
  • Transmogrification will not effect the stats of your equipment / apparel only change the appearance to look like the item you combined with the equipped item.

Void Storage:

To be blunt, void storage is very expensive for what it actually is. It costs you gold to open an account, it costs you gold to put an item into void storage, it costs you gold to take an item out of you void storage.

Quite frankly I still prefer to use the bank and add large bags to it which is much cheaper than using void storage by a long way. However I understand that other players like to keep hold of their shiny items and not sell them so if you have a full bank then void storage is a great way to keep hold of your collectibles and unobtainables although it is at a price.

Raid Finder Update:

It appears that they have updated the raid finder. As I do not raid I don't have a clue what the old one looked like so I cannot say how it has changed, I'm sure that avid raiders will find it most useful when looking for a helpless town to go over and obliterate just because they are bored and need something to do for several hours.

Valor Point changes:

Another thing that I know little about are the in game currencies obtained by raiding, dungeons and such.  I am aware that originally there were several types of PVP currency - too many different types made it frustrating for players wanting to purchase certain PVP gear but found out after several hours of raids, dungeons etc that they earned the wrong type of currency. Blizzard have come to realise that its pretty stupid having so many currency types and it seems that they are planning and have started to narrow down the currency types obtained. Making it simpler and easier to understand. Quite frankly why people do PVP is beyond my understanding - its just not me.

Darkmoon Faire Tickets: Old ones now useless.

One thing I did realise if you have any of the old darkmoon faire tickets they cannot be exchanged at the new vendors as its a different type of currency than before. So all your darkmoon faire old tickets obtained by several hours of game play over several years - now rendered useless. There is no way to exchange them for the new tickets at all. However don't throw them out just yet, maybe in the future Blizzard will write in a Darkmoon Faire old to new ticket exchange.... or maybe thats just wishful thinking.

New Rogue Experience: Fangs of the Father

It appears that Blizzard have introduced a rogue only quest chain regarding Deathwing. Apparently rogues will have to travel far to reach their goals. There does seem to be a good reason for rogues to do this quest chain. Once completed the rogue player will obtain a pair of daggers that become more lethal against enemies over time, and with an added element of the Old Gods the player will be able to unravel a pair of wings from their own back while in combat. Is this a new way for Blizzard to keep players playing by making them roll out a Rogue if they do not already have one. Thus making them more money in the process? You decide.

11 New Tier 13 Armour Sets Released:

Blizzard have also added the new tier 13 armour sets to the world of warcraft with patch 4.3. One for each of the character classes on the game. As expected they look epic and most delightful. For more information on the tier 13 armour please click here.

Four new Raids and Dungeons:

Blizzard have given the PVP community four brand new raids and dungeons to play till their hearts content. Personally I hate PVP and so have no interest in the new raids etc, but I'm sure most players of World of Warcraft will go mad for this new content.

The new raid and dungeons are:
  • Raid: Dragon Soul - click here for more information on this raid.
  • Dungeon: End Time - click here for more information on this dungeon.
  • Dungeon: Well of Eternity - click here for more information on this dungeon.
  • Dungeon: Hour of Twilight - click here for more information on this dungeon.

Official Trailers for the latest patch:

If you are looking for some official videos of the latest patch 4.3: hour of twilight then look no further, here they are all together for your viewing pleasure.

Azure Whelpling

While working on completing the "WinterSaber Trainers” quests in “Winterspring” I was going around killing “Winterfall Ursa” for one of the quests and to my shock and amazement the first one I killed dropped a “Azure Whelpling” companion.
This is wonderful news which I would like to share!

Noggenfogger Elixir

While wandering around in Gadgetzan, Tanaris, I came across a vendor known as Sprinkle Noggenfogger, she sells only one item known as “Noggenfogger Elixir” it doesn't cost much to buy and it gives you 5 uses. Basically it turns you into a skeleton for 10 minutes. Kind of cool really and worth the mention.

Goldenscale Vendorfish: Prime Location – DarkCrest Enclave

I remembered today that quite a while ago I caught a “trash” fish out in Outland that I could sell to the Vendors for 6 gold. Not quite remembering the full name I searched for “Vendorfish” and found the “Goldenscale Vendorfish” this is a pretty rare fish caught in Outland with apparently a 1% drop rate from fishing pools.

Today I went back to “Zangarmarsh” and circled round for a couple of hours looking for the elusive fish schools. I successfully located two fishing pools in the area marked in red on the map below, both of which successfully dropped the “Goldenscale Vendorfish” worth 6 gold a pop. Most of the Outland fish will sell in the auction house for a minimum of 1g a piece but since the “Goldenscale Vendorfish” is a “trash” grey item no-one would bother buying it unless it was very cheap and they could sell it to a vendor for 6g.
Goldenscale Vendorfish

Both the fishing schools which successfully dropped the “Goldenscale Vendorfish” for me were “Brackish Mixed Schools” and I currently have a 22% drop rate of the “Goldenscale Vendorfish” in “Darkcrest Enclave”.

Mysterious Device spawns Searing elementals in Blasted Lands

While in Blasted Lands, I came across two groups of “Searing Elementals” after I helped kill them all I was blessed with an attribute (Buff) called “Fire Powered” which can let loos another buff known as “Reflection of torment” which increases your attack power by 1000 when you attack another target.  that helps. These elementals were again spawned from a “Mysterious Device”
