Patch 4.3 Hour of Twilight Goes Live

Well the hour of twilight has been forced upon us and the rein of terror of Deathwing has come to a close. Personally I think that its a good thing as quite frankly when my character is out mining in the middle of Burning Steppes and as my character is normally the only one there - Deathwing usually homes in on my character like a moth to a flame.

Always frustrating how he could take the time to go out of his way just to annoy me. Well since that is over hopefully there are more good things to come to the world of warcraft.

You can view the official cut-scene of the downfall of "Deathwing" near the portals in Stormwind by clicking on "Chromie" near the left pillar in the picture.

Most people focus on the new PVP, raids, dungeons that new patches bring out but I prefer focusing on the littler things - small gestures that make playing worthwhile. This time round there is a brand new Darkmoon Faire with its own area and exclusive mounts and companions.

So basically there are a good few new features presented to us with patch 4.3: Hour of Twilight.
These include the following:

Brand new Darkmoon Faire

I have written another post all about the brand new darkmoon faire experience so please check it out "here".  There is no point blabbering about repeating myself when there is a new page on it.

Transmogrification:

You can now customise your apparel and weapons to look like any other item you have picked up. I have noticed that there are a few things you need to know when using transmogrification.

  • Make sure you are wearing your best stat equipment but don't like the look of.
  • Go to the transmogrification vendor and select the "shiny" item of the same type.
  • Transmogrification will not effect the stats of your equipment / apparel only change the appearance to look like the item you combined with the equipped item.

Void Storage:

To be blunt, void storage is very expensive for what it actually is. It costs you gold to open an account, it costs you gold to put an item into void storage, it costs you gold to take an item out of you void storage.

Quite frankly I still prefer to use the bank and add large bags to it which is much cheaper than using void storage by a long way. However I understand that other players like to keep hold of their shiny items and not sell them so if you have a full bank then void storage is a great way to keep hold of your collectibles and unobtainables although it is at a price.

Raid Finder Update:

It appears that they have updated the raid finder. As I do not raid I don't have a clue what the old one looked like so I cannot say how it has changed, I'm sure that avid raiders will find it most useful when looking for a helpless town to go over and obliterate just because they are bored and need something to do for several hours.

Valor Point changes:

Another thing that I know little about are the in game currencies obtained by raiding, dungeons and such.  I am aware that originally there were several types of PVP currency - too many different types made it frustrating for players wanting to purchase certain PVP gear but found out after several hours of raids, dungeons etc that they earned the wrong type of currency. Blizzard have come to realise that its pretty stupid having so many currency types and it seems that they are planning and have started to narrow down the currency types obtained. Making it simpler and easier to understand. Quite frankly why people do PVP is beyond my understanding - its just not me.

Darkmoon Faire Tickets: Old ones now useless.

One thing I did realise if you have any of the old darkmoon faire tickets they cannot be exchanged at the new vendors as its a different type of currency than before. So all your darkmoon faire old tickets obtained by several hours of game play over several years - now rendered useless. There is no way to exchange them for the new tickets at all. However don't throw them out just yet, maybe in the future Blizzard will write in a Darkmoon Faire old to new ticket exchange.... or maybe thats just wishful thinking.

New Rogue Experience: Fangs of the Father

It appears that Blizzard have introduced a rogue only quest chain regarding Deathwing. Apparently rogues will have to travel far to reach their goals. There does seem to be a good reason for rogues to do this quest chain. Once completed the rogue player will obtain a pair of daggers that become more lethal against enemies over time, and with an added element of the Old Gods the player will be able to unravel a pair of wings from their own back while in combat. Is this a new way for Blizzard to keep players playing by making them roll out a Rogue if they do not already have one. Thus making them more money in the process? You decide.

11 New Tier 13 Armour Sets Released:

Blizzard have also added the new tier 13 armour sets to the world of warcraft with patch 4.3. One for each of the character classes on the game. As expected they look epic and most delightful. For more information on the tier 13 armour please click here.

Four new Raids and Dungeons:

Blizzard have given the PVP community four brand new raids and dungeons to play till their hearts content. Personally I hate PVP and so have no interest in the new raids etc, but I'm sure most players of World of Warcraft will go mad for this new content.

The new raid and dungeons are:
  • Raid: Dragon Soul - click here for more information on this raid.
  • Dungeon: End Time - click here for more information on this dungeon.
  • Dungeon: Well of Eternity - click here for more information on this dungeon.
  • Dungeon: Hour of Twilight - click here for more information on this dungeon.

Achievement: Ready, set, goat

The “Ready, set, goat” achievement is very easy to get. Simply go to “Fuselight” located in  Badlands and visit “Gina Gotgoods” and purchase a “Billy Goat Blaster DX” then go upto a “Billy Goat” and use the “Billy Goat Blaster DX” to push 12 “Billy Goats” off the cliffs within 1 minute.
Ready, set, goat
I completed this first time as there are lots of goats on the nearby cliff edges.

It looks awesome and the MountSpecial is very special indeed. I will be putting together a video of the Winged Guardian in action over the next couple of days which I hope you will enjoy!

WoW Macros: Smart aspect switch–Hunter Macro

I myself have some knowledge in basic coding, I do not claim to be a whizz at this stuff but I have the general understanding of what basic languages require and the structure of the context in which the functions are used.

So to make my life easier I wanted to make a quick macro to switch between two different hunter aspects. Simple you may think… this one is smart, it detects which aspect is already open and changes it to the other one… so

Smart Switch: Aspect of the Cheetah to Aspect of the Hawk and vice versa.

Basic Description: Detects which aspect is running (cheetah or hawk) and then changes to the one that is not active.

Not bad for a girl! (Must not be re-distributed on any other website thanks)
Please view my video below to see it working.

Spotlight Mount: Winged Guardian

I have been away from World of Warcraft for a couple of months and after playing again I spotted some players riding fabulous lion like mounts which have flames coming from them. After inspecting the characters I came to realise that the mounts in question were called the Winged Guardian.
After further investigation I soon realised that Blizzard had recently released this purchase only mount at the Blizzard Store.
Now I would really like one of these gorgeous mounts in the future and hopefully my character will be blessed with the ownership of a Winged Guardian.
Winged Guardian
Personally I have seen no other mount like the Winged Guardian. Its head is of a lion with a fiery mane, tail and feet. Whilst having wings of a bird with a flowing and glowing aura about them leaving luscious trails of light behind them.
Winged GuardianI strongly recommend the Winged Guardian mount if you would like to stand out in a crowd and get players saying “what a lovely mount” and “where did you get it”.
I personally find the Winged Guardian mount attractive as it looks epic! And will fly at the speed that your maximum flight skill will allow. So if you increase your flying speed, the mount will automatically increase for you!

“When you take to the skies astride a blazing, eagle-winged lion, your comrades will know you mean business.  Serious business.  So saddle up, because the Winged Guardian will travel as fast as your riding skill will take you.”

Mount Spotlight: Celestial Steed

I personally love the celestial steed mount in World of Warcraft. I am female and love all things horsey so when I saw it in the blizzard store I was pestering my boyfriend to buy me one. After waiting in the online checkout queue for over 4 hours was I upset with my brand new Celestial Steed mount on the day of release? NO! I was overjoyed!
Course there were a few bugs and the mount originally looked smaller than it should be against my night elf hunter but over the next few months Blizzard worked their magic and the Celestial Steed because beautiful with updated graphics for swimming, and re-scaling so the character didn't dwarf the celestial steed mount.
Even now many months after purchasing the Celestial Steed mount its still my main mount for flying and ground!
If you like special mounts its worth the £17 from Blizzard! Please check out these Celestial Steed pictures and videos that I have made.

Altered Beast: Winterspring

While out in Winterspring farming thorium ores I came across some beasts with a strange glow after further inspection they were what is known as “Altered Beasts” where they turn from one thing into another. Clestial Steed Flying Bug In 4.0.1

I have been playing wow for many years and I have noticed that there is a rather amusing flying bug with the Clestial Steed Flying Mount. What it actually does is just stand there while you are flying round. I have a screenshot and a video to show the bug, I plan on adding another video showing the mount moving but still “standing” in the near future.

Patch 4.0.1–New Celestial Steed Swimming Animation.

As you know Blizzard have now officially released patch 4.0.1 there are some amazing additions to the game some great some small. One small update I have noticed is to the Celestial Steed mount. Prior to this update the Celestial steed would fly underwater. Now they have added a swimming animation as you can see in this video I have taken. Oh and additional to this swimming fix they have also made the Celestial steed “scream” when it jumps - Enjoy!

Flying Rhino’s in Storm Peaks.

While randomly flying round Storm peaks hoping to find the “Time-Lost Proto Drake” I came across a group of “Stormpeak Wyrm” attacking and picking off and flying off with the “Ice Steppe Rhino” that are wandering around the area in family groups.

Patch 4.0.1–Pre Cataclysm Release Patch

As we know there has been a huge patch downloading and tonight it is planned to go live. Blizzard have announced that the game will be offline on the European servers from midnight tonight until 12noon tomorrow for them to implement this patch. Knowing Blizzard I am not going to be surprised if it takes longer to do and the game will be offline for a longer period of time.
I have played the new patch on their test realm (Brill) and fully understand that every player of wow will have to re-learn how to play the game as there have been some major changes to talents, skills, learned talents and more.

I should also add at this point that you will notice some pre-cataclysm events such as earthquakes, I have only played the pre-release 4.0.1 patch briefly so that it wont spoil the surprise for me when it is fully released later on tonight.

I have noticed that they have greatly increased their graphics engine giving water a much smoother  and realistic appearance than before.

They have removed the need for ammunition such as arrows and bullets which will save us from buying more and the chance of running out during battles which is useful but I'm sure it will effect the damaged caused on targets in a negative way, as in less hit points.
Below I have included some screen shots of changes to the game which I have taken from the test realm.

The first change that I noticed is the starting screen where you create a character as you can see from the screen shot below they have added Worgen and Goblins to the character creations however since cataclysm is not released yet they cannot be created for obvious reasons. Also on the character creation screen they have changed the character animations to random attacks and different stances, instead of standing there and looking pretty as prior releases to the game have offered. There are also additional loading screens of the character creation and game loading screens.
Patch 4.0.1 - Character Creation
Additional to this change if you are a hunter you are automatically allocated a pet when you start the game which means you do not need to tame your first pet or have to be a certain level to get one for the first time.

When you start playing you will notice that there are a few more bits and bobs on the screen including intuative tips and hints that popup and a new ? in a circle at the bottom. If you press the ? shown in the second screenshot it will open or close a hint or tip offered by the game.
4.01 - Hint & Tip Box3
They have changed a lot of the game functions including spell books as shown in the below screenshot. You will notice that some of your old attacks and learned abilities have now disappeared and new ones have been created. I will let you see these for yourself.
4.0.1 - Spell Book
You will also notice that your players talent tree has also changed shown in the image below.
4.0.1 - Talent Tree
I would like to also add they have allowed Hunters to use a function called “Call Pet” from 5 of your different pets quickly from your screen. You can swap any of these five pets with other ones you have tamed and captured. Also the stable master will allow you store up-to 20 pets which is 15 more than prior versions of this game.
Hunters now do not use “Mana” they use what is known as “Focus”.

4.0.1 - Call Pet4.0.1 - Hunter Focus
Now while in game you may notice some weird happening as I have already said this patch is a pre-cataclysm release so things are starting to get hot and heated in the world of warcraft. Including earthquakes and Stormwind being under attack by mother nature in the form of elementals and more!
Hunters are now able to throw traps at enemies once you press the “throw trap” icon you will be able to select one of your traps by clicking on the one you wish to throw and clicking on the ground where you want it to land.
4.0.1 - Trap Launcher
The following video shows how you can throw and select a trap.
Video showing trap being thrown provided by www.simplywarcraft.com

I’m not going to give much away and spoil the surprise but I have placed some screen shots below showing some of the events in Stormwind.
4.0.1 - Stormwind Attack
4.0.1 - Stormwind attack
From here I will post some screenshots of the graphics engine update including new water textures and renderings, please click on the image to enlarge. I have noticed that ships and characters now make the water ripple which is a nice cool effect.
This video is created by www.simplywarcraft.com and features the water displacement function and actions of the water while swimming and passing of boats in the sun.

I have taken one video in the rain and another in the sunshine.
